A Hole In The Sky

I'm baaaaaaaack....

I know. It's been a while but things have been busy up on my hill here in Southern Indiana and I just haven't had time to get on here for a while. I haven't got my first hike of the year in yet. I've been trying to catch up on a lot of work here. Basketball season is maxing out so I'm seeing a lot of games and writing about them for our local paper. Actually a good hike would be very welcome to just kind of clear the numbers and net webbing out of my head. About this time of year all the games start to look alike and sometimes you just gotta get outta do house. But I'm here again and with something interesting I saw tonight.

I had to go outside for a few minutes tonight and walk over to my neighbors. The sky was overcast except for a few holes here and there with one rather large hole right where the sun was going down. The light was exceptional with that National Geographic warmth to it. I looked on as the sun started setting but eventually kept going. I have seen lots of sunsets on our hill that were a lot better.

On the way back, however, my walk turned into a run when I looked to the west again. What had been a regular hole now looked like an incision in the clouds, like somebody had taken a knife and cut it open. Rays of orange sunlight stabbed their way through the cut with an orange glow to them. It was one of those things you might see only once. The reason fo the running? To get my camera so I could get a picture of it. This one was too good to pass up. And now that I've got your curiosity meter pegged out I'll show you what it looked like.
Yes....I love my hill. You never know what you're going to see next.
